Macao Science Center Joins International Science Center and Science Museum Day Free Admission to the Exhibition Center on November 10
To mark International Science Center and Science Museum Day, Macao Science Center will host a range of activities in November, including the special exhibition "Polar Research and Sustainable Development," the dome show Arctic: Frozen Planet, the "Science Flash Mob - Meet Astronomers at MSC," and the "Starry Night: Observation of the Supermoon and Planets" event. The Exhibition Center will also offer free admission on November 10 (International Science Center and Science Museum Day), inviting the public to participate in various activities to enhance their scientific literacy.
Currently, the special exhibition "Polar Research and Sustainable Development" is being held in the Atrium of the Exhibition Center, showcasing a model of China's self-built polar research vessel Xue Long 2, rare biological specimens such as Antarctic lichen, Antarctic krill, and penguin skeletons. The exhibition highlights the process of polar research exploration and China’s key achievements and innovative technologies in polar science. During the exhibition, the planetarium will also feature the ultra-HD dome show Arctic: Frozen Planet, guiding viewers to follow scientists' footsteps and explore the changes occurring in the Arctic’s natural environment due to global warming and the various threats faced by local flora and fauna.
The "Science Flash Mob - Meet Astronomers at MSC" will take place on November 3, 10, and 24 at 3 p.m. in the Macao Science Center lobby. Performers will portray Johann Schreck, an astronomer from the late Ming Dynasty, sharing interesting anecdotes about astronomy from over 400 years ago, and guiding audiences in using telescopes to enjoy the wonders of stargazing.
The "Starry Night: Observation of the Supermoon and Planets" event will be held on November 15 at 8 p.m. on the seawall near Heart-shaped Tree Square outside the Science Center. The public will have access to professional telescopes to observe details of the "Supermoon," including lunar craters, as well as views of Saturn and Jupiter. Staff will also be available to explain related scientific knowledge.
The "Science Exploration Park - Introduction and Daily Application of AI" event will take place at the Macao Science Center's FabLab on November 10 and 24 at 10 a.m. Participants will learn about the development of AI chatbots and how to engage in meaningful and sustained dialogue with them. Those interested can register through the Government Services Portal. Additionally, on November 23 at 10 a.m., the Maker Space will host an "Introduction to Biodiversity and Environmental Data Analysis using R Programming." Participants will use public science databases to observe and analyze various natural phenomena based on research needs. All activities are free, and the public may register via the Government Services Portal from October 28 to November 17.
Every Saturday in November at 2 p.m., the Science Center will hold the "Code for the Future Workshop" at the Popular Science Picture Book Library, offering a hands-on experience with educational programming tools and interactive games for children and parents. The 2023 STEAM x Picture Book x Storytelling event will take place on November 23 at 4:45 p.m. in Exhibition Hall 5, explaining the various states and transformations of water through picture book stories and experiments. Due to popular demand, online registration is fully booked, but a limited number of spots are available for on-site registration for interested children and parents.
On November 2 at 5 p.m., the Science Center will host "SciResonance - Campus Music Show" at Heart-shaped Tree Square, encouraging youth to explore music and showcase their talents. Students from Macau Baptist College will perform various musical pieces for visitors to enjoy a relaxed weekend afternoon.
Macao Science Center is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information and updates, please visit the Science Center website (www.msc.org.mo) and social media pages.
