To thoroughly implement the crucial directives of General Secretary Xi Jinping on scientific and technological innovation and science popularization, and execute the mandates outlined in the National Science and Technology Conference and the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Popularization of Science and Technology, the China Association for Science and Technology (“CAST”) organized and initiated the inaugural “National Science Popularization Month” event in September this year. Against this background, the CAST delegation led by Mr. He Junke, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the China Association for Science and Technology, Vice Chairman in Charge of Daily Work, and First Secretary of the Secretariat, visited Macao Science Center on the afternoon of September 17. The delegation, accompanied by Dr. Mok Ian Ian, President of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center Limited; Mr. Wong Ka Ki, Deputy Director of Education and Youth Development Bureau and Vice President of Macao Science Center Limited; and Dr. Sio Hon Pan, the Curator of Macao Science Center, visited the MSC facilities and the progress of science popularization activities, and exchanged views on promoting cooperation in science popularization education between the Mainland and Macao.

Secretary He Junke and his delegation toured several theme exhibition halls including the Planetarium, the International Laboratory for Science Popularization of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, and the Macao Laboratory of Information Technology Application and Innovation. Their visit was centered on gaining insights into the MSC’s achievements in popularizing BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, educating on artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, fostering innovation in information technology applications, preserving the spirit of scientists, and promoting science education across generations.

During the visit, the delegation engaged in an immersive space exploration experience at the Planetarium and received a briefing on the dissemination of the Beidou System to Portuguese-speaking countries at the “International Laboratory for Science Popularization of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System”. They also reviewed the 2025 Silver Age Science Popularization and Education Program in the Data Science Gallery and were briefed on the achievements of national key laboratories in Macao and the promotion of scientists’ spirit in the Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery. To conclude their visit, they attended the science drama “Meeting Scientists in the Metaverse - Huang Danian” at the Nautical Science Gallery.

In the future, Macao Science Center will persistently align with the national strategy of “Revitalizing the Country Through Science and Education”, and collaborate with the Macao SAR government’s three-in-one development policy focusing on “Science and Technology, Education and Talent”. It will continue to optimize its science popularization exhibits, bolster its digitalized capabilities in science outreach, and foster cross-regional resource sharing. During the National Science Popularization Month, the MSC initiated a range of activities comprising workshops on artificial intelligence science popularization, cybersecurity seminars, and “Aerospace and Navigation” exhibitions. These endeavors were aimed at supporting the Macao communities and contributing to building a technologically robust nation.
