The FIRST® LEGO® League Macao Final Held for Second Consecutive Year Over 210 Participants Compete for World Championship Qualification
Organized by the Macao Science Center, co-hosted by the Macau Gifted Education Association, and supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), the 2025/2026 FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) Macao Final CHALLENGE category concluded successfully on 8 February at the Macao Science Center’s Convention Center. The competition attracted over 210 students aged 9 to 16 from across Macao, reflecting the growing scale of participation. This event marks the second consecutive year that the Macao Science Center has been authorized by LEGO® Education to host this international STEM competition, underscoring Macao’s achievements in innovative education and its growing international recognition. In this year’s FLL Challenge, the “Dawn of Light” team from Colégio Mateus Ricci claimed the secondary school division championship and the overall championship; while the “Bricksters” team from Pui Ching Middle School secured the primary school division championship. The “Dawn of Light” team from Colégio Mateus Ricci will represent Macao in the FLL World Championship in the United States from 29 April to 2 May.
The theme of this year’s FLL CHALLENGE category is “UNEARTHED”. Participating teams were tasked with utilizing LEGO® Education kits to design, build, program, and test robots to complete missions. Additionally, they need to conduct scientific investigations based on the theme and present their innovative solutions and teamwork through models, posters, and live demonstrations. The competition included multiple rounds of task-based assessments and project presentations, providing a comprehensive evaluation of students’ engineering skills, scientific thinking, and presentation abilities.
Distinguished guests at the award ceremony included Mr. U Hon Sang, Director and Executive Committee Member of the Macao Science Center Limited; Mr. Cheong Man Fai, Director of the Youth Department of the Education and Youth Development Bureau; Mr. U Sio Peng, Board Member of the Macao Archaeological Society; and representatives of supporting organizations. The full list of winners has been published on the Center’s official website (www.msc.org.mo) for public reference.
Macao Science Center continues to promote the steady development of STEM education. Registration is now open for the remaining two categories of the 2025/2026 FLL Macao Final—EXPLORE and DISCOVER—which will close on 30 March. These competitions will be held at the Macao Science Center on 9 and 10 May, respectively. Students across Macao are encouraged to sign up and participate.
