In alignment with the State Council’s first-ever “National Reading Campaign Week” and UNESCO’s “World Book Day,” the Science Fiction Literary Lecture – “Joyfully Reading the Beauty of Science Fiction”, jointly organized by the China Writers Association and the Macao Science Center, with the support of the Kao Yip Middle School, will be held at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, April 22 at the Ho Yin Hall of the Kao Yip Middle School. Two young science fiction authors from the Chinese mainland, Liang Ling and Luo Xia, will visit Macao to discuss with young people the transformation and challenges of science fiction writing amid the rise of AI, with the theme of “Dancing with Science Fiction: How Do We Write in the AI Era?” The public is welcome to watch the live stream of the event through the China Writers website, the Macao Science Center’s Facebook page, or the Center’s YouTube channel.

The Science Fiction Literary Lecture – “Joyfully Reading the Beauty of Science Fiction” is a signature event that aligns with the national development strategy, fostering the cultivation of innovative talents through literature. Launched in April 2023, it has emerged as an important platform for advocating high-quality science fiction literature and promoting science reading in Macao. Over the past three years, award-winning young science fiction authors including Cheng Jingbo, Tianrui Shuofu, Feijia, Yuantong, Li Yiqian and Lemon Yuyan were invited to Macao for exchanges, garnering enthusiastic responses from local youth.

The two young science fiction authors invited to Macao this year were born in the 1990s, and possess distinctive characteristics of their own. Liang Ling is a prominent young female science fiction author who has garnered much attention in recent years. Her works span a variety of themes and have been frequently published in literary journals, anthologies, and online platforms. Among her notable works are the short story collections “Any Station” and “Moon Bank”. She has received the Global Chinese Science Fiction Nebula Award and the Cold Lake Science Fiction Literature Award. Additionally, some of her works have been translated into English and Japanese and published internationally. “Any Station” comprises seven stories, with “Documentary: The Sweetness of Speed” narrating the tale of a delivery worker battling against platform algorithms. This story reflected her concern for the plight of workers in the technological age.

Luo Xia is a member of the Sichuan Provincial Writers Association and currently serves as the executive editor of the science fiction MOOK “Galaxy’s Edge”. He has published over 20 short and medium-length science fiction stories on multiple platforms, and has written the novel “Demon in My Brain”, which won the Tianwen Science Fiction Literature Award for Best Novel Science Fiction and the Chinese Science Fiction Nebula Award for Science Fiction Film Creativity. As a senior editor, he has planned and edited several best-selling books such as “The Star Heirs” and “The Strange Tales of the Sea”. He has also interpreted classic science fiction works on platforms such as iGetget App and Himalaya as a storyteller.
