Macao Science Center and the Women’s Association of Macau Jointly Organized a Science Popularization Event to Celebrate International Women’s Day Paying Tribute to Women’s Strength in Technology to Promote the Spirit of Science

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Macao Science Center and the Women’s Association of Macau jointly organized a science popularization event at the Center today (March 7). Themed “Women’s Strength in Technology - Promoting the Spirit of Science,” the event garnered the participation of nearly 60 members from the Association and their families. The Center arranged a full-dome film and a special exhibition complemented by guided theatrical performances for the visitors, showcasing the remarkable national achievements in aerospace and deep-sea exploration. Prior to the event, the Center deployed its robot to greet the visitors, enhancing the technological ambiance and excitement of the occasion.

At the launch ceremony of the event, Dr. Mok Ian Ian, President of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center emphasized the significant contributions of countless female technological professionals, likening them to brilliant stars in the vast universe. Through their wisdom, perseverance and sense of responsibility, they have exemplified the spirit of “women’s strength” in the realms of technological innovation, education and inheritance, and social service. The Center has always been committed to popularizing scientific knowledge, fostering the spirit of science, spreading scientific concepts, and nurturing technological talents. Through collaborations with local women’s associations, the Center actively engages in popular science activities, advocates for gender equality in the workplace, and implements family-friendly initiatives. In recognition of its efforts, the Center was honored as one of Ctrip’s “Family-friendly Attractions” in 2025. Furthermore, the Center hosted a visit and research delegation last year led by Zhang Xiaolan, Vice President of the All-China Women’s Federation. Dr. Mok Ian Ian highlighted that, this year signifies the commencement of the 15th Five-Year Plan. Leveraging this occasion and this event, the scientific literacy of women and teenagers could be enhanced. It is essential to establish a platform that fosters innovative thinking, allows individuals to explore the allure of science and technology, and collaboratively work towards creating and sharing a better world for women and all.

In her address, Lau Kam Ling, President of the Women’s Association of Macau, emphasized the significant role of women’s wisdom and strength in advancing scientific and technological progress. The Association has consistently prioritized the development of women and teenagers, igniting public enthusiasm for innovation through a range of training programs and parent-child science and technology activities. This event concentrates on elevating women’s scientific literacy and foster parent-child learning, with the goal of inspiring local women to harness the power of science and technology, while nurturing a strong sense of national identity. Looking forward, the Association will persist in constructing a diverse development platform to guide Macao women to better integrate into and serve the overall development of the nation, and contribute their strength to the successful and long-term implementation of “One Country, Two Systems”.

Following the ceremony, the participants then enjoyed “Blue Planet Outside the Window: Space Travel”, China’s first 8K full-dome film entirely shot in space. From the first-person perspective of the Shenzhou-13 astronaut, the film presents the magnificent scenery of China’s space station, and showcases exclusively the on-orbit construction of the space station and the scenes of the astronauts’ extravehicular tasks. This film offers the audience an exceptional space experience, allowing them to deeply grasp the remarkable advancements in national aerospace technology.

The Association members and their families then went to Gallery 2 of the Exhibition Center to explore the “Deep Sea Garden” exhibition and participated in the guided theatrical tour titled “Deep Sea Voyage”. The exhibition systematically presents the history of deep-sea exploration and major scientific research achievements through unique lighting and underwater forest landscape, interactive installation, naked-eye 3D and multimedia projection technology. Participants showed significant interest in the deep-sea biodiversity and the nation’s advancements in deep-sea exploration. They expressed that the exhibition was highly inspiring and deepened their comprehension of deep-sea scientific research and seabed biodiversity.

In line with national science popularization development strategy and the Macao SAR Government’s core guidelines of integrating education, technology, and talent, Macao Science Center will continue to collaborate with local women’s associations and all sectors of society to introduce more diversified science education activities. These efforts aim to inspire women and teenagers to engage with scientific and technological innovation, and foster an environment where all citizens are attentive to scientific and technological advancements.

Macao Science Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays, and is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year’s Eve.
