Macao Science Center Offers Free Admission on May Day and International Museum Day AI General Education in Communities to Promote Accessibility Applications
To bolster public scientific literacy, Macao Science Center will persist in organizing a series of science popularization activities in May, encompassing community outreach initiatives, AI training sessions, astronomy popularization education and cultural experiences. The Exhibition Center of the Macao Science Center will be open to the public free of charge on International Labor Day (May 1) and International Museum Day (May 18). In addition, on May 1, the first 30 Macao residents attending each dome show at the Macao Planetarium are eligible to enjoy the film at no cost by presenting their Macao Resident Identity Card.
AI General Education in the Community
Since the inception of AI community general education last year, the Center has consistently integrated the ethos of “Tech for Good” into its programs and has been actively promoting this concept in the community through workshops. In May, the Center will bring the “Rokid AI Glasses” developed by Hangzhou Lingban Technology Co., Ltd. to visually and hearing-impaired individuals at the Holy House of Mercy Blind Rehabilitation Center, Caritas School and Macau Deaf Association, to demonstrate the various functions of the glasses through practical application scenarios, such as multilingual real-time translation, object recognition, voice navigation and message reminders. The event aims to offer participants a hands-on experience of the convenience brought by AI technology in daily life, assisting disadvantaged groups in enhancing their quality of life and seamlessly adapting to smart living environments.
AI Training Courses
In May, Macao Science Center will offer several AI training courses. Among them, “Introduction to AI-Driven No-Code Workflow Design” course will be held on May 2, 9, 23 and June 6, instructing students on using AI platforms to build automated workflow and knowledge bases. Additionally, the “Intermediate Certification Course for Generative AI Application Engineers” will be conducted in a blend of online and offline formats to assist students in preparing for professional certification examinations.
International Museum Day Carnival and Maker Workshop
On May 17, the Center will participate in the “2026 Macao International Museum Day Carnival” held at the Lotus Square, Edifício Do Bairro Da Ilha Verde, where an interactive quiz game titled “Technology Connects the World” will be organized to advocate for the public’s application of AI. In addition, the Center and the Cultural Affairs Bureau will jointly host the “Maker Workshop” at the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library at 3 p.m. on May 9, allowing participants to experience laser cutting and 3D printing technologies; the “Bionic Creation” parent-child workshop is scheduled to take place at the Maker Space of the Center at 11 a.m. on May 10, where participants can observe the structure of butterfly wings through a microscope and explore the principles of bionics. Registration for all the above activities is available through “Macao One Account” App.
“Starry Night” Astronomy Science Popularization Activities
Two “Starry Night” astronomy science popularization activities will be held in May. On May 23 at 8 p.m., the “Observation of the Moon and Planets” will be held at the Macao Science Center Seaside, near the Scenic Pavilion; on May 24 at 5 p.m., Tsang Chin Kwan, an astronomy instructor from the Hong Kong Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre, will give a “Homemade Star Projector” full-dome lecture at the Planetarium, leading participants to create their own small star projectors. Those interested can get free tickets at the Center’s ticket office on the day of the event.
Macao Coffee Festival
The “Macao Coffee Festival” co-organized by the Center and the Macau Youth Development Service Centre, will persist throughout May at the Heart-shaped Tree Square of Macao Science Center. The event will feature numerous local coffee, light food, and cultural and creative brands. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange their on-site consumption receipts for tickets to the Exhibition Center, granting access to specific exhibition halls where they can delve into the history of coffee in Macao and related scientific knowledge. Additionally, participants can engage in a postcard stamp collection game, immersing themselves in a distinctive ambiance that seamlessly connects leisure culture with science education.
Macao Science Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays, and is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year’s Eve.
