Macao Science Center Welcomed 18,000+ Visitors During the Chinese New Year Holiday Visitor Numbers at the Exhibition Center and the Planetarium Increased by 5.6 Percent Compared to the Same Period Last Year
Macao Science Center remained open during the Chinese New Year period. From February 17 to 23 (the first to the seventh day of the Lunar New Year), the Exhibition Center and the Planetarium welcomed a total of 18,271 visitors, marking a 5.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.
The Center continues to provide visitors with new and exciting experiences. Before the Chinese New Year, the Biodiversity Hall (Hall 6) at the Exhibition Center introduced a collection of valuable biological specimens gathered from Macao and its surrounding waters, including butterflies, shellfish, peacock pheasants and Malayan giant tortoises, enabling visitors to closely observe and understand the roles of various species in the ecosystem. Currently, a “Deep Sea Garden” exhibition is being hosted at Gallery 2 and the atrium of the Center. Additionally, the Planetarium is showcasing the new full-dome movie “Horse Power”, narrating the journey of growth of an eight-year-old girl named Jula and her beloved horse, intertwining an epic tale of different horse breeds across four continents. This visual feast conveys the Eastern wisdom embodied by the “Horse”, introducing the Chinese zodiac culture to the visitors.
To enhance the festive atmosphere, the Center will hold a “Lantern Riddle Guessing” activity on March 1 (Sunday). This event ingeniously combines traditional lantern riddles with scientific knowledge, spanning disciplines such as physics, chemistry, biology, and astronomy, enabling participants to learn while engaging in riddle-solving. The public is welcome to join the event at the Exhibition Center free of charge from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the day.
On the same day, the Center will host a “Silk Painting” workshop in the Science and Technology Innovation and Education Space. Participants will have the opportunity to create distinctive pieces of art by utilizing advanced two-color 3D printing technology to craft intricate three-dimensional outlines (cloisonné) and infusing them with vibrant colors. The workshop will be conducted in two sessions, at 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with the registration and material fee of MOP 88. Since the quotas are limited, interested individuals should register in person at the Center’s FabLab 30 minutes before the event begins. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a parent.
Macao Science Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays, and is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year’s Eve.
