Macao Science Center Introduces the AI Digital Human Exhibit Featuring Deng Jiaxian Mr. Deng Zhiping Delivered a Special Lecture in Macao to Promote the Spirit of Scientists

Macao Science Center hosted the unveiling ceremony for the “Deng Jiaxian AI Digital Human” exhibit and a special lecture at the conference center today (29th). The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Mok Ian Ian, President of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center, Sio Hon Pan, the Curator of the Macao Science Center, and Mr. Deng Zhiping, the son of Deng Jiaxian.

Academician Deng Jiaxian was a pioneer in China’s nuclear weapons development and one of the “Fathers of the Two Bombs”. This “Deng Jiaxian AI Digital Human” exhibit utilizes holographic imaging and intelligent voice interaction technology to faithfully replicate the likeness of Academician Deng Jiaxian. Visitors can engage with “him” by posing questions spanning a range of topics, including his personal growth experiences, scientific research endeavors, nuclear science knowledge, and messages to young people. The AI digital human will provide responses correspondingly, fostering an immersive dialogue that transcends time and space.

At the ceremony, Dr. Mok Ian Ian, President of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center, presented a letter of appreciation to Mr. Deng Zhiping. The letter expressed gratitude for his visit to Macao and for sharing his father’s story from a family perspective, encouraging the young people to inherit the spirit of scientists such as patriotism, dedication, pragmatism, and innovation. Following the ceremony, Mr. Deng Zhiping delivered a special lecture chronicling the life of Academician Deng Jiaxian, highlighting his pursuit of knowledge, dedication to serving the country, resolution in addressing critical challenges, and significant contributions. This lecture vividly portrayed the inspiring actions of the preceding generation of scientists who wholeheartedly devoted themselves to national defense amidst challenging circumstances. The teachers and students present responded enthusiastically.

As a National Science Popularization Education Base, a Scientist Spirit Education Base, Macao Science Center has dedicated itself to embedding the nation’s scientific and technological advancements within local science popularization education initiatives. The Center is actively aligning with the strategic directives of the National 15th Five-Year Plan Outline to “enhance the dissemination of science and technology, foster an innovative culture, and promote the spirit of scientists”. By upholding the mission of promoting science education among the youth and facilitating the dissemination of advanced technology and science, the Center has been promoting the spirit of scientists to the public for many years through setting up the Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery. Emphasizing interactive experiences and immersive learning, the Center enables scientific principles to be presented to the public in a “visible, playable, and perceptible” manner, transforming the dissemination of knowledge into experiential engagement. In line with the national directive to fully implement the “AI +” initiative and advance the fusion of AI with cultural development, the Center has introduced AI digital human exhibit this time. This innovative approach transforms the static display of the scientists’ spirit into dynamic dialogues through digital means, which will help to kindle the interest of young individuals in nuclear physics and artificial intelligence technology while propagating the ethos of scientists.

The AI digital human exhibit will be moved to the National Sentiment Pavilion under the Education and Youth Development Bureau from May to June this year to assist in the implementation of short lectures on the spirit of scientists. Afterwards, it will be moved back to the Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery (Gallery 10) of the Exhibition Center at the Macao Science Center for permanent display, in order to promote the spirit of scientists to schools and communities, and help Macao cultivate more patriotic and Macao-loving successors in science and technology innovation.

Other guests attending the event included: Mr. Wong Ka Ki, Vice President of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center, Mr. U Hon Sang, the member of the Board of Directors, To Wai Ming, member of the Consultative Committee, Cheong Hung Fat, Deputy Curator of Macao Science Center, etc. Members from the “Youth Science and Technology Village” and representatives of teachers and students from various schools in Macao also attended the event.
