Macao Science Center Offers a Variety of Exciting Activities During the Lunar New Year
To celebrate the Chinese New Year, Macao Science Center will resume normal operations from February 17 to 25 and will only be closed on Chinese New Year’s Eve (February 16). In February, the Center will launch a series of Chinese New Year activities, including the exhibition “Deep Sea Garden”, the “Starry Night - Drone Astrophotography” lecture, the brand-new full-dome movie “Horse Power”, as well as several science popularization workshops and online prize games, bringing a rich Chinese New Year science popularization experience to both residents and visitors.
The “Starry Night - Drone Astrophotography” full-dome lecture will take place at the Planetarium on February 1 at 5:00 pm. This lecture, presented by Mr. Vincent Cheng (pseudonym “不動明王”), a distinguished Hong Kong-based astrophotographer, will focus on the drone astrophotography techniques. Free tickets will be distributed on the day of the event by ticketing office.
During the Spring Festival, visitors can explore the “Deep Sea Garden” exhibition showcased in the atrium and Gallery 2 of the Exhibition Center. This exhibition, jointly organized by Macao Science Center, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, and Tongji University, combines an immersive deep-sea environment with interactive virtual reality (VR) experiences. Themed on the “cold-water coral” discovered in the South China Sea, the exhibition guides visitors to explore the deep-sea ecology and cutting-edge national scientific research achievements, offering a distinctive experience for families during the Spring Festival.
The planetarium will premiere the new full-dome movie “Horse Power” on February 14. The film narrates an epic tale of a Mongolian girl and her Mongolian horse, depicting the breathtaking spectacle of horses galloping across the grasslands, suitable for the entire family. To accommodate the public’s interest in the movie, additional screenings of the full-dome movie will take place at the planetarium daily at 11:00 a.m. from the first day to the seventh day of the Chinese New Year (February 17 to 23). For more information, please visit the planetarium’s website.
To enhance the festive atmosphere, the Center will host a variety of workshops during the Chinese New Year period. From February 17 to 19, the “LEGO ‘Horse’ to Success” parent-child workshop will take place at the FabLab. On February 14, coinciding with World Wetlands Day, the “Sustainability Star Challenge - Water Cycle Adventure Team” parent-child workshop will be conducted. Furthermore, from February 7 to 14, a series of “FunTech Adventure” workshops will be offered, covering topics such as AI and programming. Registration for all the above activities is available through “Macao One Account” App. In addition, the Center’s WeChat subscription account will feature two online prize games “New Year’s Puzzle Fun” from February 13 to 23 and “Black-faced Spoonbill Adventure” from February 24 to March 5 respectively. Participants will have the opportunities to win exquisite gifts.
Macao Science Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays, and is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year’s Eve.
