Macao Science Center Open Daily in August – A Summer Hotspot for Fun and Science

Macao Science Center (MSC) is in full summer mode this August! Open daily throughout the month, the Center is rolling out a variety of engaging programs, including the brand-new fulldome show The Stellars – Mission: Green 3D, the “MakerLab Workshops,” “SKY KIDS × Explorers of the Cosmos,” as well as ongoing series such as “Starry Night” and guided science drama tours—offering the public a fun and educational science experience this summer.

Currently on display in Exhibition Hall 2, the special exhibition Tethys Ocean Elves – Chinese Triassic Marine Reptiles runs until 7 September. On weekends between 10 and 30 August, MSC will host the science drama tour Fossil Hunter – Mary Anning. Admission is included with a ticket to the Exhibition Center. From 5 to 14 August, the MSC WeChat subscription account will also launch an online prize game titled Tethys Ocean Elves: Special Forces, where participants can win science toys and other prizes.

During the summer holiday, the Planetarium screens seven fulldome shows daily, with an additional show at 1 p.m. Special highlight: The Stellars – Mission: Green 3D, which guides viewers through the mysteries of how plants thrive from soil to sunlight. Two “Starry Night” events are scheduled in August. On 9 August, “Solar Activity Observation” will feature Mr. Lei Chi Fai, President of the Macao Astronomical Society, who will share stellar knowledge and safe observation tips. On 23 August, the special lecture “James Webb Space Telescope” will be delivered by Mr. Yu Wai Chun, Chief of the Occultation Team of the Hong Kong Astronomical Society, offering insights into the latest space exploration developments. Free tickets for these events will be available at MSC’s ticketing counter on the day of each activity.

“SKY KIDS × Explorers of the Cosmos” will take place on 10 and 17 August at the Stargazer zone in the Astronomy Science Exhibition Gallery and Planetarium lobby. The program features the science drama Pioneer of the Spinning Planet and a “D.I.Y. Telescope” workshop, open to children aged 6–12 and their parents.

In response to International Homeless Animals Day, a parent-child workshop titled Sustainable Star Challenge – Big Dogs at Home will be held on 10 August. Through storybooks, a life education talk by Macao Volunteers for Stray Dogs, and hands-on animal interaction, the workshop promotes compassion and respect for life.

The “MakerLab Workshops” will be held from 11 to 14 August, offering four sessions for youth aged 12 and above to learn to create refrigerator magnets, personalized stamps, and LED keychains using AI, 3D printing, and laser cutting technologies. Registration for all programs is available via the “Macao One Account” platform.

From 2 to 27 August, MSC and the Macao Youth Development Service Center will co-host the “Coffee Vibes in Macao” Coffee Festival at Heart-shaped Tree Square. Featuring 25 local coffee and bakery brands, the festival offers pour-over coffee experiences, live music, and workshops—ideal for families to explore Macao’s coffee culture together.
