To promote cybersecurity awareness and the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) among the elderly, the Macao Science Center has partnered once again with the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macao and Bank of China (Macau) Limited to jointly organize Silver Age Science Popularization and Education Program “Wisdom of the Elderly, Accompanied by Technology” on September 17. This initiative, coincided with the National Weeklong Cyberspace Security Promotion Campaign on Telecommunication Day (September 17), aims to deepen community education on artificial intelligence through the collaborative model involving venues, communities, and enterprises. The Program focuses on educating the elderly citizens on effectively utilizing internet technology, emphasizing cybersecurity and data security, so as to enhance their AI recognition and application capabilities.
The launch ceremony of the event took place on the morning of September 17 at the lobby of the Macao Science Center (MSC), with notable attendees including Dr. Mok Ian Ian, President of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center Limited; Mr. Chan Weng Tat, Vice President of Bank of China (Macau) Limited; Ms. Ng Siu Lai, President of the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macao (UGAMM); Mr. Leong Sai Kun, General Manager of the Banking Center of BOC Macau Branch; Mr. Wong Hio Keong, General Manager of BOC Macau Branch Ko Si Tak Sub-branch; Dr. Sio Hon Pan, the Curator of Macao Science Center; and U Hon Sang, a member of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center Limited.
Following the ceremony, the elderly citizens from the elderly centers under the UGAMM attended the “Cybersecurity Guardians” science popularization seminar at the FabLab, where they received updates on the latest developments in Internet technology within the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) in order to increase their awareness of internet and data security, online banking, mobile payments, and personal data protection. Additionally, they explored several cybersecurity-related interactive exhibits at the Data Science Gallery.
2025 Silver Age Science Popularization and Education Program is divided into two phases, featuring activities customized to address the daily life scenarios and specific requirements of the elderly. The first phase, held during National Science Popularization Month in September, features over ten activities. In this phase, more than 540 elderly participants from the elderly centers under the UGAMM will be invited to the Macao Science Center to attend science popularization seminars and exhibitions, with the aims of enhancing their understanding and application of AI, and their awareness of Internet and data security. At the same time, BOC Macau will also introduce the knowledge of mobile banking, e-banking services, and cybersecurity tips to the elderly, to assist them in utilizing online banking tools effectively. In the upcoming second phase in November, the Program will be further extended within the community. MSC staff will support the elderly centers in various districts under the UGAMM in educating the elderly on using mobile AI assistants, allowing them to directly experience the convenience provided by the smart technology.
