Macao Science Center Representative Wong Wing Yan Awarded “Outstanding Presenter” Title at Chinese Scientist Spirit Showcase

Jointly organized by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Communication Center and the China Scientists Museum, the “New Voices of Inheritance: First Scientist Spirit Presenter Showcase” was successfully held in Beijing on 25 January. Wong Wing Yan, representing the Macao Science Center, stood out from nearly 200 entries nationwide with her presentation, “Gazing at the Stars: Sun Jiadong’s Aerospace Life”, and was awarded the title of “Outstanding Presenter”.

This event aimed to identify talent in science communication and promote the spirit of scientists. Wong’s presentation centered on Academician Sun Jiadong’s leadership in developing China’s first artificial satellite, Dong Fang Hong 1 (also known as PRC 1). Her narrative traced the journey from the acceptance of the mission and technical breakthroughs to the successful launch, before extending to the challenges and achievements of subsequent satellite programs. She also connected these milestones to landmark accomplishments in China’s aerospace industry, including the Fengyun meteorological satellites, the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, and the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program. Through a blend of storytelling and heartfelt delivery, Wong brought to life Sun Jiadong’s unwavering dedication and sense of responsibility, encapsulated in his motto: “I will act for the nation’s need”.

This award not only affirms Wong Wing Yan’s professional abilities but also reflects the Center’s ongoing achievements in promoting the spirit of scientists and nurturing science communication talent. Looking ahead, the Center will continue to foster popular science exchanges and collaborations, passing on the spirit of science in diverse forms and inspiring the younger generation to embrace national responsibility and the courage to explore.
