Launch of Recruitment for the Third Cohort of the “Youth Science and Technology Village” Talent Training Programme Promoting Artificial Intelligence Education to Nurture High-Calibre Technology Talent
In response to the growing societal demand for science and technology professionals and in alignment with the Macao SAR Government’s policy objectives in science and technology education, the “Youth Science and Technology Village” Talent Training Programme will expand its intake for the 2025/2026 academic year. The Programme will place a special emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) training, offering both theoretical coursework and practical application opportunities.
Co-organised by the Education and Youth Development Bureau, Macao Science Center, and Galaxy Entertainment Group, a briefing session for the recruitment of the third cohort of the “Youth Science and Technology Village” Talent Training Programme was held on the 29th of this month at the Conference Centre of the Macao Science Center. Mr. U Hon Sang, Board Member and Executive Committee Member of the Macao Science Center, and Mr. Oscar Leong Si Chong, Director of Education and Exhibitions, provided detailed explanations of the objectives, content, and training model of the Programme to school representatives, attracting enthusiastic participation from many educational institutions.
The Macao Science Center actively responds to the SAR Government’s policy of “AI education across all school levels and general science education for the whole society” under the social and cultural affairs portfolio. In the 2025/2026 academic year, the “Youth Science and Technology Village” Talent Training Programme will further deepen its training in AI technologies, aiming to enhance students’ AI literacy and practical application capabilities, and to nurture high-quality scientific and technological talent that meets the needs of the times. The Center will also continue to review and optimise the effectiveness of the Programme by gathering and carefully listening to feedback from society, schools, and participating students. The number of places for the 2025/2026 academic year will be further increased, and students with potential in the field of science and technology will be selected through a school recommendation mechanism, in order to better address the demand for tech talent development.
Since its launch in the 2023/2024 academic year, the “Youth Science and Technology Village” Talent Training Programme has been well received by parents, schools, and various sectors of the community. Targeting senior secondary school students, the Programme spans three academic years and covers core STEM areas including computer and network technologies, engineering, biology, and chemistry. The training model incorporates the use of facilities and equipment from the Beidou and Xinchuang laboratories of the Science Center, professional guidance from experts in higher education institutions and tech enterprises, and regular field trips to technology companies in Macao, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and the Greater Bay Area to gain in-depth industry knowledge and support students’ career planning. In addition, students will have the opportunity to participate in international and national science and technology competitions, broadening their horizons, enhancing their scientific literacy and competitiveness, and laying a solid foundation for future careers in the technology sector.
