Introduction:
This Planetarium fulldome lecture will feature the Pooi To Middle School's Astronomy Group and their advisor, Mr. Jin Xin, who were recently awarded the Honorific Title – Merit by the MSAR. The lecturer will present the research process and scientific milestones behind their recent asteroid discovery.
In 2024, teachers and students from the Pooi To Middle School's Astronomy Group successfully identified a new near-Earth asteroid. This pioneering achievement has been officially certified by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) under the provisional designation 2023HZ9, representing the first-ever asteroid discovery recorded in Macao. The lecture will detail the discovery methodology, explaining how the students conducted astronomical observations and executed data calculations to determine the asteroid's fundamental parameters.
Come and immerse yourself in this inspiring event to retrace the scientific steps taken by Pooi To's team as they unraveled the mysteries of the cosmos!
