Deep within the Earth's crust, without light, without air, with very little water, in the pores and fissures of hard rock, scientists have discovered an enormous biodiversity of microorganisms that thrive in extreme conditions. The Dark Biosphere challenges everything we thought we knew and forces us to rethink not only the origin and evolution of life on Earth but also its possible existence throughout the universe.
