Introduction |
In 2024, we commemorate several significant anniversaries: the 65th anniversary of the discovery of the Daqing Oil Field, the 135th anniversary of Li Siguang's birth, the 60th anniversary of China's first successful atomic bomb detonation, the centennials of Deng Jiaxian and Zhu Guangya's births, the 25th anniversary of the National Highest Science & Technology Award's establishment, and the 105th anniversaries of awardees, Wu Wenjun and Huang Kun's births. While these events arise from diverse historical backgrounds, the spirit they embody transcends time and place, inspiring generations.
In light of this, China Science and Technology Museum together with Macao Science Center and The Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau are organising the "Shining Stars of China: Innovation for the Future" Exhibition series. The Exhibition narrate the inspiring tales of tech enthusiasts who have dedicated themselves to the noble endeavor of advancing their nation through science and technology, contributing to the vision of a technologically robust society. The series includes exhibitions "The Lifeblood of the People's Republic of China", "Silent Thunder" and "A Chip-Driven Patriotic Heart", features a blend of multimedia displays and tangible artifacts. By weaving together scientific principles and practical applications in a visually engaging narrative format, the exhibitions aim to kindle curiosity and exploration among visitors. The overarching goal is to foster a culture of scientific inquiry, methodical thinking, and innovation spirit within the community. Moreover, the Exhibition will offer a glimpse into the innovative products developed by local research enterprises in Macau, providing the public with insights into the region's scientific research endeavors and inventive accomplishments.
Together, let us trace the journey of our scientists' endeavours, cherish their timeless spirit, and carry the torch as we advance to uphold our mission. |

The Lifeblood of the People's Republic of China |
Li Siguang is an outstanding Chinese scientist and educator, a renowned social activist, and a great patriot. He was one of the founders of modern Chinese geology in new China. This photo was taken in 1953 when Li Siguang was conducting a geological survey in Beidaihe. |
According to the Organic Origin Theory, oil and most natural gas are derived from Strata that were one ancient oceans or lakes. Here, the remains of abundant marine organisms, mainly phytoplankton, accumulate over time and, when combined with sediment, from sedimentary rocks. These organic-rich rocks, under the influence of high temperature and pressure, undergo a transformation process into complex hydrocarbons. The denser hydrocarbons from oil, while the lighter ones become natural gas. |
Ultra-deep strata have become the primary front for increasing China's oil and natural gas reserves and production. "Marching towards the Earth's depths" represents a significant strategic mission to safeguard our nation's energy security and a critical strategic decision to steadfastly secure our energy future. -- Sun Jinsheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering |
Silent Thunder |
On 24 April 2020, to celebrate the 5th "Space Day of China" and promote the spirit of the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" program, a special series of portraits depicting the contributors to the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" program was created. |
"The Nine Calculations" was a significant event in the development of the atomic bomb. Chinese scientists repeatedly calculated the explosive pressure data for the bomb during its development. The results of these nine calculations were consistently accurate but significantly different from what Soviet experts had stated. Ultimately, through scientific evidence, it was proven that the data provided by the Soviet experts was incorrect. |
In 1970, China successfully launched its first satellite, heralding a new era in Chinese aerospace history. Today, China has successfully launched numerous satellites for various purposes such as Earth observation, maritime monitoring, environmental surveillance, space exploration, scientific experiments, and more. |
A Chip-Driven Patriotic Heart |
While the international mathematics community was immersed in explorations of abstract algebra and mathematical logic, Wu Wenjun turned his attention to the emerging field of topology. His groundbreaking achievement has also been cited by five recipients of the Field Medal. |
Huang Kun is a Winner of the National Highest Science and Technology Award. He is a Solid-state Physicist and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences. |
The lithography machine is a crucial tool for manufacturing high-end chips. It features a precise and complex structure. The lithography machine developed in China is approaching the international mainstream level. |
