    Macao Science Center Celebrates the Lunar New Year with a Series of Activities

    To embrace the Year of the Dragon, Macao Science Center has arranged a number of wonderful programs to celebrate the Lunar New Year with citizens and tourists. The Center will be closed on Lunar New Year's Eve (February 9) and will remain open from the first to the sixth day of the Lunar New Year (February 10 to 15). The interior and exterior of the lobby have been decorated with bright ornamentations, featuring an atmosphere of rejoicing and joy to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Welcome to visit the Center and take photos with your friends and relatives during the holidays.

     

    Over two weekends from February 3 to 11, the Center will organize eight "New Year AR Fai Chun Workshop" at the FabLab, allowing children to combine videos with traditional Fai Chun (red banners) using augmented reality technology to create unique electronic Fai Chun to celebrate the Chinese New Year. This activity is suitable for children aged 6-12. This activity is charged at MOP100 and limited places are available. From February 8 onwards, interested parties can apply for this activity through the Macao One Account APP.

     

    The Macao Science Center website (www.msc.org.mo) will be rolled out with a new look on February 5. The new version of the website is designed to be adaptive to automatically adjust the graphic layout of the page by device, so that users can have the best experience when browsing the new website using desktops, tablets or mobile phones. Meanwhile, the new version of the website is concise and clear, with a new function of barrier-free browsing, making it convenient for the public and visitors to find information on the Center's exhibitions and programs anytime and anywhere. Macao Science Center will hold a prize game called "Treasure Snatching in the New Year" on its WeChat subscription account from February 8 to 17. Participants will have the chance to win fabulous gifts such as beautiful science popularization toys.

     

    From February 10 to 15, the Planetarium will add dome shows from 11:00 in the morning. Welcome to watch the 3D dome show, In Search of the Perfect Planet 3D, or visit the special exhibition, Beauty Story, at Gallery 2 of the Exhibition Center to learn about the proper and safe use of cosmetics as well as the history and culture of cosmetic-related issues. Visitors can also enjoy the science drama, Battle with Tooth Worms or The Tree of Life: Charles Darwin, at the Stargazer Astronomy Gallery (Gallery 1) or the Nautical Science Gallery (Gallery 5) to learn how to protect their teeth as well as Darwin's life and the theories of survival of the fittest and natural selection.

     

    In addition, Macao Science Center will organize two "Starry Night" astronomical science popularization activities in February. "Stargazing on the Sea" will be held on February 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. The Chairman of the AstroLink, Mr. Huey Pang, will share with the audience the best places for stargazing in Hong Kong and the basic techniques of astrophotography. On February 24, the Center will organize an event called "Enjoy the Full Moon Together at the Lantern Festival" at 8:00 p.m. at the seawall near the heart-shaped tree. In addition to setting up professional visual observation telescopes for participants to observe the full moon and the craters on the moon's surface, the Center will also arrange for staff to tell stories related to the moon. No registration for the above events is required. Interested participants may go to the event venue on their own. However, the above events may be canceled or changed due to factors such as weather.     Macao Science Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays, and is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year's Eve.
