This July, the Macao Science Center (MSC) will hold various popular science activities for children and teenagers to enjoy their summer vacation, including the "Discover the Hall of Mental Cultivation" Digital Experience Exhibition, a science drama "Journey to the Forbidden City with A Magical Brush", workshops themed on reading pop-up books to visit the Forbidden City, "Starry Night" astronomical popularization series activities and a dome show A Starry Tale, etc., all of which provide the public and tourists with a good place to spend their summer leisure time. On August 3, Yan Yong, the director of Institute of Court Costumes and Embroidery of the Palace Museum and vice chairman of the Textile and Cultural Relics Professional Committee of the China Cultural Relics Academy, will personally visit the Convention Hall of MSC to give a lecture at 3:00 p.m., introducing knowledge about the Qing Dynasty court costume system, embroidery, fabric dyeing, and matching. The public is welcome to join the seminar through the Macao One Account APP from July 1.
The "Discover the Hall of Mental Cultivation" Digital Experience Exhibition currently held in Gallery 2 of the Exhibition Center employs advanced technologies such as motion-sensing interaction, 3D modeling, and virtual reality (VR) technology, combining ancient architecture, traditional culture, and modern technology to showcase the emperor's work and life in the Hall of Mental Cultivation. Through interactive technology, visitors can imitate the emperor to read the memorials, dress up in court costumes, and personally prepare delicious imperial cuisine. They can also enter the Hall of Three Rarities, the favorite imperial study of the Qianlong Emperor, to take photos or view precious relics. The activities are suitable for parents and children to experience together. On July 7, 8 and 22,a science drama "Journey to the Forbidden City with A Magical Brush" will be held at 3 p.m. Parents are welcome to accompany their children to learn more about the emperor's life in the Hall of Mental Cultivation through a conversation between the court painter Giuseppe Castiglione and a young girl.
On July 6, 7 and 13 and August, MSC will hold regular workshops themed on reading pop-up books to visit the Forbidden City to explain the architecture, culture, and scientific stories of the Hall of Mental Cultivation. This activity is suitable for children aged 9-12. Due to the overwhelming public response, the quota of online registration for the event is now full and there are a few registration quotas for each workshop. Interested children and parents are welcome to register on-site at the FabLab in the lobby of MSC before the event starts. In addition, from now until October 26, the parent-child workshop themed on "Seeing the Forbidden City - Miniature Model" will be held at the FabLab.at 4 p.m. every Saturday. Participants can not only make a miniature model of rooms of the Hall of Mental Cultivation of the Forbidden City and watch holographic movies but also learn about its history and scientific stories of the Hall, which is suitable for parents and children aged 6 to 14 to participate together. The public can register for the event through the Macao One Account APP from now on, and the fee is MOP 150. Local residents who register through the Macao One Account APP can also be arranged to visit the Exhibition Center and the "Discover the Hall of Mental Cultivation" Digital Experience Exhibition.
"Starry Night: Homemade Paper Telescope" will be held at 5:00 p.m. on July 13 at the Planetarium. Mr. Kenneith Ho-keung Hui, astronomy officer of the Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre in Hong Kong, will introduce the optical principles and functions of the telescope and guide the audience to make a paper telescope. No registration is required for the above events. Free tickets will be distributed by the ticketing office of MSC on the days of the events.
From July to August, MSC will hold a series of popular science education activities such as the "Sport Science-Darts" course, drone experience class and a science exploration park.
The activities are suitable for children and teenagers aged 6 to 13. Interested parties can apply for this activity through the Macao One Account APP or browse MSC website to check the introduction, registration method, and fee details of each activity.
MSC is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays, and is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year's Eve. Please check the latest announcements on MSC's official website (www.msc.org.mo) and social media accounts for more event information and news.
