A Strategic Cooperation Agreement Signed between MSC and the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin to Jointly Promote the New Development of Science Popularization and Education

Macao Science Center (MSC) and the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin (hereinafter referred to as the "Urban Planning and Construction Bureau Bureau of GMICZ") held a signing ceremony for the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement between the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and Macao Science Center this morning (July 4) in Hengqin National Wetland Park (Erjingwan), and the MSC Science Popularization and Education Base in Hengqin National Wetland Park was unveiled at the same time. The Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement was signed by Mr. Cheong Kok Kei, Director of the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau Bureau of GMICZ, and Mr. Sio Hon Pan, Curator of MSC. In the future, both sides will jointly promote science popularization and education and improve the scientific literacy of the public by complementing each other's strengths.

Ms. Tam Wai Fong, Deputy Director of the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of GMICZ, said that a good communication mechanism has been established between the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of GMICZ and MSC, adding that the signing of the cooperation framework agreement is not only a new starting point for the friendly cooperation and common development with MSC, but also a vivid practice for both sides to jointly promote the coordination of educational resources between Hengqin and Macao and create a life similar to that in Macao.

Curator Sio Hon Pan of MSC said in his speech that the establishment of the MSC Science Popularization and Education Base in Hengqin National Wetland Park by MSC in collaboration with the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of GMICZ was a bold attempt to the innovative mode of science popularization and education. He hoped that both sides, with the aid of this platform, would jointly plan and launch special courses on sustainable development and ecological protection in the future.

From now on, MSC and the Urban Planning and Development Bureau of GMICZ will fully utilize their respective advantages in resources, and continue to cooperate closely in the development of science exhibitions, curriculum design, personnel training, international exchanges, and the introduction of science dramas and workshops. Moreover, both sides will create science popularization activities with local characteristics, provide the public with more vivid and intuitive learning experiences, cultivate students' interest in science and their sense of innovation, and jointly promote green science popularization and education work and research on sustainable development such as ecological environmental protection, biodiversity development and carbon neutrality.

The "2024 Youth Science Video Contest - Visiting Activity" co-organized by MSC and the Urban Planning and Development Bureau of GMICZ will be held on July 27 and August 3.  The event includes visits to Hengqin National Wetland Park, bird-watching activities and science lectures, aimed at helping young people understand the characteristics and importance of wetland ecosystems and encouraging them to explore suitable themes during their visits to the park and create science videos on biodiversity and sustainable development.
