The Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of “Youth Science and Technology Village” Witnesses a Successful Graduation Ceremony and an Orientation Event Join Hands in Training Future Scientific and Technological Talent and Building Macao's Dream of Scientific and Technological Innovation
On July 1, a graduation ceremony and an orientation event were held for the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of “Youth Science and Technology Village”, an initiative co-organized by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), Macao Science Center (MSC) and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), to celebrate the completion of the first-year course by the first session of trainees and to welcome the second session of new trainees to join the big family of the "Youth Science and Technology Village".
The guests present included Ms. Mok Ian Ian, President of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center Limited, Mr. Wong Ka Ki, Deputy Director of DSEDJ, Vice-President and President of Executive Committee of Macao Science Center Limited, Mr. U Hon Sang, Board Member and Executive Committee Member of Macao Science Center Limited, Mr. Buddy Lam, Director of Corporate Affairs of GEG, and Mr. Oscar Leong, Education and Exhibits Controller of MSC.
Mr. Wong Ka Ki, Deputy Director of DSEDJ, welcomed the new trainees and emphasized the "1+4" moderately diversified economic development strategy put forward by the Macao SAR Government, in which high-tech is the key development field. Therefore, it is the responsibility and mission of DSEDJ to train scientific and technological talent. He also added that continuous professional training and support would be given to the trainees, so that they could become scientific and technological talent with the spirit of scientists and sentiments for their family and country.
Mr. U Hon Sang, Board Member and Executive Committee Member of Macao Science Center Limited, extended his congratulations on the graduation of the first session of trainees, welcome to the joining of the second session of trainees, as well as gratitude to all the cooperative units and schools that supported this program. He recalled that scientific research courses and study tour activities that the trainees attended in the past year enabled them to understand the scientific and technological industry and the actual needs of the industry, which played a very important role in the planning of trainees' scientific and technological professions. He mentioned that trainees were organized to attend various science and technology competitions in the past year. They achieved good results and thus enhanced their scientific literacy through exploration in practice.
Meanwhile, Mr. Buddy Lam, Director of Corporate Affairs of GEG, also welcomed and congratulated the new and former trainees. He said that GEG has always attached great importance to the development of young talent in Macao and has been committed to helping the young generation tap their potential through a variety of means over the years. It was a great honor for him to join hands with DSEDJ and MSC in creating a cradle for cultivating outstanding scientific innovation talent in Macao. He added that GEG would continue to actively leverage its resources to support the relevant curriculum planning, such as arranging for trainees to visit the comprehensive resort facilities owned by GEG, to help young students further broaden their horizons in science and technology.
The Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of “Youth Science and Technology Village” covers three major areas, that is, computer and science and technology network, engineering, and biology and chemistry. The first session of trainees in the 2023/2024 academic year has completed more than 100 hours of lectures and scientific research courses, as well as seven local and overseas study tour activities, and will upgrade to second-year trainees in the 2024/2025 academic year. In order to encourage the trainees to learn more about science and technology, GEG has established the "GEG Rising Potential in Scientific and Technological Innovation" award in recognition of the five most enthusiastic trainees participating in various competitions and activities in the 2023/2024 academic year. The winners included Zhu Seong Pan (Saint Paul School), Sheng Kuo Feng (Chan Sui Ki Perpetual Help College), Lam Cheng (Sacred Heart Canossian College (English Section)), Sam U Hin (Salesian English School), and Lei Pui Wa (Escola dos Moradores de Macau). In the new 2024/2025 academic year, first-year trainees will take interdisciplinary general courses to learn basic knowledge and skills, while second-year students will choose special research projects according to their personal interests and receive guidance from experts in the relevant fields.
Starting from the new academic year, the Youth Science and Technology Village will have three new strategic partners. The strategic partners include the University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macao Polytechnic University, City University of Macau, the Macao Electric Lighting Company, Limited, Macao Water Supply Company Limited, GienTech Technology Co.,Ltd., Aerospace Science and Technology Working Committee of the China Association for Promoting International Economic & Technical Cooperation (CAPC) (BeiDou Navigation Satellite System), Huawei Macau Branch, NIO Guangzhou, QAX Cybersecurity Technology (Macao) Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group (Macao) International Industry Development Co., Ltd., Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, and Digifluidic Biotech Co., Ltd. The supporting partners include the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau, Macau Institution of Engineers, Macao Institution of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, China Green Building and Energy Saving (Macau) Association, Macau Properties and Facilities Management Association, Carbon Emission Peak and Carbon Neutrality Professional Council of China Association of Plant Engineering, GoAirborne Indoor Skydiving Macau Co., Ltd., and Macau XR Technology LTD.
All co-organizers, strategic partners and partners of the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of “Youth Science and Technology Village” will continue to adhere to the objectives of this program, discover and train students with special skills in science and technology as early as possible and cultivate them into scientific and technological talent with the spirit of scientists and sentiments for their home and country. Meanwhile, these institutions will promote scientific popularization and education, assist young people and students in their career planning in science and technology, support their further studies and diversified development, lead more outstanding young people to the road of scientific and technological innovation, and inject new strength into the future development of the Macao SAR.
