Macao Hosts Its First-Ever FIRST®️ LEGO®️ League Macau Regional Finals Authorized by LEGO®️ Education Pui Ching Middle School Macau Wins Championship and Secures Spot in the World Finals
The 2024/2025 FIRST®️ LEGO®️ League (FLL) Macau Regional Finals – CHALLENGE Division, organized by the Macao Science Center, co-organized by the Macao Gifted Education Association and the Macau Science and Technology Innovation Education Association, and supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau and Escola Oficial de Seac Pai Van, took place today (9th) at Escola Oficial de Seac Pai Van, attracting over 160 students aged 9 to 16 from across Macau. This marks the first time Macau has received authorization from LEGO®️ Education to host this annual international STEM competition, demonstrating global recognition and support for Macau's STEM education development. After multiple rounds of intense competition, Pui Ching Middle School Macau emerged as the overall champion, earning the qualification to represent Macau in the FLL World Finals in Houston, USA, this April.
Founded in 1998 by LEGO®️ Education in collaboration with the FIRST Foundation (USA), FLL has become one of the most influential youth science and technology competitions worldwide, spanning over 110 countries and regions and engaging nearly one million students. The Macao Science Center aims to further internationalize STEM education in Macau by hosting the FLL Macau Regional Finals and the FLL Asia Pacific Open Championship in August this year. These initiatives provide local students with a platform to showcase their innovative problem-solving skills and teamwork, enhance exchanges between Macau and other regions, and support talent development in science and technology.
This year's FLL Macau Regional Finals – CHALLENGE Division focused on the theme “SUBMERGED”, addressing issues related to marine ecological protection. Competing teams applied their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to design, build, and program robots that carried out a series of tasks, developing innovative and practical solutions to help protect the marine environment. The champion team will advance directly to the FLL World Finals.
The awards ceremony of the 2024/2025 FLL Macau Regional Finals – CHALLENGE Division was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Wang Kanqing, Director of LEGO®️ Education FLL China; U Hon Sang, Member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of Macao Science Center Limited; Hon Iok, Director of Escola Oficial de Seac Pai Van; Oscar Leong Si Chong, Controller of Education and Exhibits at Macao Science Center; Ng Teng Chio, Director of Colégio Diocesano de São José; Ieong Pui Ian, Vice Principal of Pui Ching Middle School; and Hau Sik Kau, Vice Principal of Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai.
