Macao Science Center Co-organizes the “Greater Bay Area Youth Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Challenge”
The finals of the “Greater Bay Area Youth Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Challenge 2024” were recently held at the Conference Hall of Macao Science Center. The event was jointly organized by the Judiciary Police of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, the Education and Youth Development Bureau, and the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force. It was co-organized by the Macao Science Center, the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government, the Association of IT Leaders in Education, the Guangzhou Artificial Intelligence Industry Development Promotion Association, and the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Innovation Center of the Hong Kong Institute of Innovation Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The competition aimed to enhance youth awareness of fraud prevention and cybersecurity, encourage the use of artificial intelligence to improve daily life, highlight the advantages of integrating educational resources in the Greater Bay Area’s technology and innovation sector, foster regional collaboration, and promote scientific and technological exchange and joint development among young people in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. The competition lasted over four months and attracted 1,182 students from 126 schools across the Greater Bay Area.
To align with the Macao SAR Government’s policy of integrating education, technology, and talent development, and to enhance young people's digital literacy and technological innovation capabilities, Macao Science Center provided all participants with professional online pre-competition training. Additionally, 52 trainees from the “Youth Science and Technology Village” talent cultivation program participated in the competition. After multiple rounds of selection, 117 students from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao advanced to the finals, including 16 trainees from the “Youth Science and Technology Village.” Participants were required to use artificial intelligence and cybersecurity technologies to design innovative fraud prevention models within a limited time and resources. These models underwent multiple rounds of testing and optimization before being presented to the judges as practical solutions. Throughout the competition, the trainees from the “Youth Science and Technology Village” demonstrated exceptional innovative thinking, technological application and problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and in-depth understanding of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
Looking ahead, with the strong support of the Education and Youth Development Bureau and Galaxy Entertainment Group, Macao Science Center will continue to enhance the “Youth Science and Technology Village” talent cultivation program as a platform to encourage youth to specialize in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The program will persist in fostering youth participation in major technology competitions, professional training, and expanding regional exchanges, contributing to Macao’s development as a hub for international high-end talent.
