    Introduction

As one of the most important palaces in the Palace Museum, the Hall of Mental Cultivation was the place of work and living for eight emperors since the Yongzheng Emperor of the Qing dynasty, as well as concrete evidence to study the architecture, court history and life of the Qing dynasty. The Palace Museum has been committed to exploring digital technology starting from the 21st century and established a huge and accurate database, based on which a virtual architecture of the Hall of Mental Cultivation in this exhibition was constructed. Meanwhile, the motion-sensing interaction, 3D modeling and virtual reality (VR) technology employed allows the public to learn about the architectural functions of the Hall of Mental Cultivation and knowledge of court life in the Qing dynasty after experiencing the Hall of Mental Cultivation in a digital world.

The “Discover the Hall of Mental Cultivation” Digital Experience Exhibition was co-organized by the Palace Museum and Macao Science Center (MSC). In addition to the architecture of the Hall of Mental Cultivation, the exhibition also selects the high-precision digital models of some cultural relics, such as ceramics, glass, goldware and silverware, jadeware, bronze and carved lacquer and interactively presents the production technology, decorative features and use methods of these cultural relics. In the meantime, some funny content such as the costumes of emperors and queens and the imperial cuisine is reproduced with digital technology, which breaks limitations in time and space in a vivid manner and leads the public to rediscover the Hall of Mental Cultivation and experience the excellent Chinese traditional culture.

With the joint efforts by the Palace Museum and MSC in moving the "Hall of Mental Cultivation" to Macao by advanced scientific and technological means, the public will be guided to walk into this special place, feel the charm from it, and discover the hidden mystery.
