    Representative of Macao Science Center Is Invited to Deliver A Keynote Speech at the First Hong Kong Young Scientist Summit

    Curator Dr. Sio Hon Pan, the Executive Committee Member and Director of Macao Science Center Limited, represented Macao Science Center (MSC) in Hong Kong on December 4 to participate in the first Hong Kong Young Scientist Summit jointly organized by Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences, Greater Bay Area Homeland Investments Limited and the Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation.  Dr. Sio Hon Pan was invited to deliver a keynote speech to introduce to more than 400 young scientists, academics and other audience the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of Youth Science and Technology Village. The Program was launched by MSC in order to support the Macao SAR Government's "1+4" moderately diversified economic development strategy, to assist the development of key high-tech industries, to leverage the roles of MSC, universities and various State Key Laboratories in Macao, and to support young students' further education and diversified development.

     

    As a national science education and popularization base and a National Scientist Spiritual Education Base, MSC has always been committed to the promotion of science education, high technology and science dissemination. This year, MSC, together with the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and Galaxy Entertainment Group, jointly organized the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of Youth Science and Technology Village. The Program aims to provide special training for students with expertise in fields of science and technology, thereby discovering early and cultivating timely science and technology talent. It also strives to actively strengthen the support for young people's professional career planning in this field, so as to help them better contribute to the overall development of the country.

     

    Other international scholars and professionals attending the Summit include: Yang Tong, Member of Hong Kong Academy of Sciences; Chan Che Ting, Member of Hong Kong Academy of Sciences; Felix MORONTA, Co-President of the Global Youth Academy; David AI, Head of Innovation (2020-2023) of London School of Economics and Political Science; Akihiko KONDO, Vice President and Professor of Kobe University; and Sasitorn SRISAWADI, Co-President (2019-2021) of the Thailand Academy of Young Scientists. They delivered keynote speeches on topics such as success stories in nurturing young scientists to become world-class scholars, how young scientists can contribute to long-term public policy, transformation and commercializing the results of high-tech solutions in universities, and supporting the popularization and promotion of science in schools.

     

    In addition to the first Summit mentioned above, the Young Scientist Summit has planned to hold three seminars in March, May and July 2024, where hundreds of young scientists and scholars will gather to explore different topics of science and innovation.
