Already a Handful! Come Celebrate with us MSC’s Seventh Anniversary

The Macao Science Center has prepared a series of entertaining activities to celebrate its 7th Anniversary with the public.

Developed and produced by the Natural History Museum, London, the “Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition” was officially opened this morning. Presiding our opening ceremony were officiating guests Mr. Tong Chi Kin, Vice-President of Macao Science Center (MSC), Mr. Leong Kun Fong, IACM Administration Committee Member, Mr. Lee Ming-Yuen, Vice Director of Macao Association for Promotion of Science and Technology, Mr. Alex Mok and Mr. Mr. Johnathan Wong, Board Members of MSC, Mr. Pan Sio, Curator of MSC, Mr. Sylvester Cheong, Deputy Curator of MSC and Mr. Oscar Leong, Education and Exhibits Controller of MSC. The Center is the first in Asia to host the 52nd Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, exhibiting 100 breathtaking images selected from around 50,000 entries from 95 countries around the globe. In addition, the exhibition introduces the photo-realistic augmented reality (AR) technology. Visitors can now experience a variety of wildlife animals through the display, illustrating the abundance, majesty, and vulnerability of life on Earth, aiming to arouse public attention to the conservation of wildlife. The exhibition is held from 21 November 2016 to 21 February 2017 at gallery 2.

It is with great pride that the Center has been awarded the Three-Star Certificate of Green Building Design Label”, the highest rating attributed by the China Green Building and Energy Saving (Macau) Association. The China Green Building and Energy Saving (Macau) Association was established in January 2014 in Macao, is a branch of China Green Building Council (CGBC) based in Macao, and is an extension of the China Green Building Label, which was established in 2006 by China’s Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. Buildings that are certified by the "Green Building Design Standard Certification" must fulfill a number of criteria, including outdoor and indoor environmental quality, energy and water use, and daily operational management, etc. It is required to obtain an excellent rating for most of these criteria in order to be honored. The members of the China Green Building and Energy Saving (Macao) Association are responsible for the sustainable development of eco-friendly building in Macao, to cultivate talents, and to integrate green building theory and research into the market. The association is also responsible in the establishment, publication, implementation, evaluation and certification of sustainable buildings in Macao. The award presentation ceremony for the Three-Star Certificate of Green Building Design Label was held this morning at the MSC Convention Center. The Center has become an exhibit that implements both green building design and eco-friendly practices. The idea came from the Center’s own mission and the 4R policy. By integrating environmental protection and science education, the Center wishes to promote understanding of the relationship between eco-conservation and our daily lives, said Mr. Pan Sio, Curator of MSC.

Today, our Planetarium launches the all-new 3D dome show “We are Stars 3D”. It is a science documentary dome show based on the adventures of a group of Victorian time travellers exploring our cosmic chemistry and explosive origins, thus understanding the connection between the life on Earth and the evolution of the Universe.

Have you ever heard about the principle of leverage, free fall, Newton’s law and nuclear changes? On 12 December, the Center has re-opened gallery 9 with a new themePhysics Mechanics, which enables visitors to think and explore natural phenomena and learn the principles of physics.

Furthermore, the Center will offer free admission to the Exhibition Center for all visitors and free admission for the first 30 local residents to each Dome Show on the 19
and 20 December. In addition, from 20 December 2016 to 2 January 2017, the Planetarium will offer 3 to 4 additional dome shows daily during Christmas and New Year holidays.
