Macao Science Center Celebrates the International Women's Day on March 8 with a Number of Wonderful Activities

To celebrate the International Women's Day, Macao Science Center will organize a number of activities in March that can encourage the public to pay attention to women's rights and interests and learn about the contributions of women to various fields of society, especially scientific and technological progress. Citizens and tourists are welcome to visit the special exhibition "Metamorphosis Beauty" on view to discover women's pursuit of beauty in different cultural backgrounds from ancient times to the present, or learn at the Stargazer Astronomy Gallery about how Chinese and foreign female astronomers devote themselves to science despite gender bias.

Macao Science Center will organize two "Starry Night" astronomical science popularization activities in March. "Meteorites: The Secret of Shooting Stars" will be held at the Planetarium of the Center on March 2 from 5:00 p.m. Assistant Professor Chi-Pui Tang from the Space Science Institute of the Macau University of Science and Technology will explain the definition of meteorites, methods of searching for meteorites, and the scientific significance of meteorite research. At 5:00 p.m. on March 9, Professor of Engineering Guo Xia from the Beijing Planetarium will share with the audience the stories of planetariums in their 100 years at the event "100 Years of Planetarium: The Stars were Just the Beginning!". No registration is required for the above activities. Free tickets will be distributed by the ticketing office on the days of the events.

March 3 was proclaimed as World Wildlife Day by the United Nations to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the world's wild fauna and flora and preserving biological diversity. In observance of this annual day of recognition, the Center will host a parent-child workshop in the NetLab over two weekends from March 16 to 24 at 10:00 a.m., where children will be taught relevant knowledge and instructed to use LEGO® bricks to build small animals. It is suitable for children aged 6 to 10 and their parents. The workshop is charged at MOP120 and limited places are available. From 10:00 a.m. on March 1 through 10:00 a.m. on March 15, interested parties can apply through the Macao One Account APP. Additionally, the storytelling theater "The Tree of Life: Charles Darwin" will be held at Gallery 5 of the Exhibition Center on March 10 from 4:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the theater to learn about Darwin's life and theories of survival of the fittest and natural selection.

In response to the "Earth Hour 2024" lights-out movement launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature, Macao Science Center will turn off its non-essential lighting inside and outside the building for one hour at 8:30 p.m. on March 23. For 14 consecutive years, the Center has supported this global environmental protection event with practical actions, hoping to encourage the public to reduce energy consumption and adopt a low-carbon, green lifestyle that advocates environmental protection and energy conservation.
