Gu Yidong, CAS Academician and Aerospace Expert, Visits MSC

Academician Gu Yidong, famous expert in space science and applications, recently visited Macao Science Center (MSC) to learn about the latter's efforts in science popularization education and science communication, especially in the last two years after it obtained the titles "National Science Popularization and Education Base" and "National Scientist Spirit Education Base". He deeply exchanged views with Mok Ian Ian, President of MSC, and U Hon Sang, Board Member and Executive Committee Member of MSC.

The delegation led by Gu Yidong visited the Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery, the International Lab for Popularization of the BeiDou Satellite System, the Astronomy Gallery--Stargazer, and the Planetarium, and acknowledged MSC's work in science popularization education and science communication.

Gu Yidong was granted the title Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2005. He works as researcher of the Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization and Director of the Academic Committee, CAS. His titles also include Chief Expert of Space Science in the project of China Manned Space and Chief Designer of two scientific satellites. He has long engaged in research on cosmic rays and led the establishment of China's high-altitude scientific balloon system. Additionally, he participated in multiple studies of astroobservation using balloons and X-rays. From 1994 to 2009, Academician Gu served as Chief Designer and Commander of the space application system of China Manned Space. He led China's overall plan and sci-tech work of space applications of China Manned Space, organized and completed the load development, trials, test launch, and space operation of several missions, such as earth observation from space, space astronomy, space life science, microgravity science, and space environment. He also led the planning and demonstration of space science and application missions of China's space labs and space stations. Meanwhile, he won the Special and Second Prizes for National Science and Technology Progress Award, science and technology awards from ministries and commissions, and the Group Award for Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievement of the Qiu Shi Science & Technologies Foundation. Moreover, he published papers and led the formulation of more than 300 engineering reports.
