    Cape Star Shore

    Purpose: To support the "Cape Star Shore" plan of the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), Macao Science Center will launch a science popularization and education event for the public on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays in the area designated at the "Cape Star Shore".


    Main Event Content: The event includes suitable outdoor astronomical lectures, science lectures, astronomy observation activities, STEAM-related parent-child activities, science reading, etc.

    Introduction: Cities are not biodiverse deserts, and there are many organisms inhabiting the green land of cities. Through lectures and outdoor investigations, participants can gain a better understanding of ecological civilization. By observing different organisms (including insects and plants), participants can better understand the natural ecology and species of Macao and the role that different organisms play in the urban ecosystem. The event is conducive to strengthening the connection of the public with the natural ecology and encouraging them to protect Macao's natural environment and ecology, as well as diverse organisms and resources on the planet.

    Dr. Danny Chi-Man Leong

     

    Dr. Danny Chi-Man Leong is a biologist from Macao who is dedicated to the study of insect biodiversity and urban ecology in Macao. In 2018, he discovered the "Leptanilla Macauensis" on Ilha Verde Hill, Macao - an endemic species found only in Macao. He holds a BSc and MSc in Entomology from the National Taiwan University and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Hong Kong. His study focuses on the biodiversity of insects in Macao and the impact of urbanization on ecosystem stability. With many years of experience in research and ecological education, he was awarded the Explorer of the National Geographic Society and the Guangdong Changlong Individual Advancement Award in 2021 for his outstanding research.

    Introduction: Observe the constellations of late winter and spring with you on the shore. The instructor will introduce the characteristics of the starry sky that night, how to recognize them and their stories.
