    Campus Weather Monitoring Competition in 2021-2022

    [Announcement] Abnormal Barometric Readings (November 29, 2021)

    Recently, some teams reported abnormal barometric readings. After testing by the organizer's technicians, it was found that there was a problem with the new version (v0.0.19) of the weatherbit library.

    Regarding this issue, the Center has consulted the original supplier of weatherbit, according to which, it is currently working on different problems of the upgraded library, but the completion time of the repair cannot be determined for the moment. The following is the original official reply:

    We are working on a fix for most of our micro:bit products that should repair what was broken in the new update. Until then, my recommendation is to install/use the older version until we release the fix。

    At the suggestion of the original supplier, the organizer's technicians conducted the following tests on the old version (v0.0.15) of the weatherbit library, and the results are as follows:

    1.  After we switched to the old version (v0.0.15) and only used the weatherbit library, it could work normally and read data correctly;

    2.  After we switched to the old version (v0.0.15) and added the kittenbot wifi (Wi-Fi module) and Octopus (UV and PM2.5 sensor) libraries, the program had a compilation error;

    3.  After we switched to the old version (v0.0.15) and deleted the kittenbot wifi (Wi-Fi module) library, the program had a compilation error;

    4.  After we switched to the old version (v0.0.15) and deleted the Octopus (UV and PM2.5 sensor) library, the program could compile normally and read the air pressure data correctly;

    Therefore, different problems will arise when either the new version or the old version is adopted. In this regard, the organizer recommends that the participants choose the appropriate versions based on the research themes of their reports.

    If you have any problem with the version switching, please apply to the Center for assistance.

    Meanwhile, the organizer expects each participant to try different methods when a problem comes up in the research process, and present the relevant process and solution in the report.

    Introduction: In order to promote and encourage students to monitor meteorology and perform data analysis systematically and scientifically, so as to establish their own/ schools' elementary meteorological monitoring stations, Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau and Macao Science Center is going to jointly organize a project-oriented competition. Teams participating in the competition should use the meteorological monitoring equipment and auxiliary components designated by the organizer to collect meteorological data after assembling them, and share them with the public on the Internet in real-time. Besides, the competition also requires participants to analyze the materials collected and make brief reports on the results, thus to understand the features of different weather processes and other scientific issues relevant to meteorological monitoring.
