Macao Science Center joined the World Challenge Day yesterday (26 May) and invited all visitors to join this event by being physically active for 15 continuous minutes during their visit at the Center. Worksheets in multiple languages were provided at the Sport Health and the Sport Challenge Galleries of the Exhibition Center to help guide visitors to use the exhibits for the designated amount of exercises. For the first time, local residents and tourists visiting during the Center’s opening hours (from 10:00 a.m. till 18:00 p.m.) gave their support by participating in the World Challenge Day Event. About 307 visitors and staff spent 15 continuous minutes exercising. Not only did they take a step forward to a healthier lifestyle but they also helped Macao reach nearer to the victory of the One-on-One inter-city competition.
In the competition, which aims at the promotion of the practice of sports and an active and healthier lifestyle, cities are paired according to population and location. This year Macao is to compete against Sorocaba, a Brazilian city with a similarly sized population.
Invited by the Trim and Fitness Sports for All International Association (TAFISA), this year’s World Challenge Day is once again jointly organised by the Macau Sport Development Board and Civic Municipal Affairs Bureau in collaboration with the Health Bureau. To help promote and to give support to this event, Macao Science Center put up official posters and played a promotional video, in Chinese and Portuguese, inside both Sports themed Galleries, the Sport Heath and the Sport Challenge Galleries.
Our staff and on-duty volunteers took an active role in introducing the event while giving out worksheets to the visitors inside the galleries. Some even took the lead to guide the visitors through simple exercises. Many of our staff also showed team spirit and spent 15 continuous minutes exercising in the facilities.
