Aiming to be the hub for science education, tourism and MICE, Macao Science Center is officially open to the general public on 25 January and celebrated the opening of a special exhibition, the “Ancient Chinese Science and Technology Exhibition” at its Exhibition Center.
Many local residents and tourists are attracted to the Macao Science Center on the day and the majority of them are local families and elderly. The first visitor to the Center even received a souvenir pack from the President of Macao Science Center Limited, Mr. Vitor Ng. Most of the visitors are satisfied with the facilities and programme arrangement at the Center. They believe that the exhibits can help to stimulate children’s thinking and to promote teenagers’ interest in learning science. Some visitors are already considering bringing their family, friends and children with them when they return to the Center.
Jointly organised by Chinese Science and Technology Museum and Macao Science Center, the “Ancient Chinese Science and Technology Exhibition” is held at the Special Exhibition Gallery 2 in the Exhibition Center of Macao Science Center from 25 January. This exhibition will last until June and will showcase selected artefacts from 10 areas of scientific and technological inventions in ancient China, including astronomy, compass, gunpowder and weapons, bronze, paper-making, printing, mechanics, weaving, architecture and ceramics where visitors can appreciate the wisdom and the magnificent achievements in science and technology made by ancestors of the Chinese Nation.
Officiating guests at the opening ceremony of the Ancient Chinese Science and Technology Exhibition include Mr. Qi Rang, Vice President of China Association for Science and Technology; Mr. Liu Xiaohang, Head of Department of Culture & Education, The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region; Mr. Tong Chi Kin, Convenor of the Group for Promotion of Science, Science and Technology Council; Mr. Xu Yanhao, Curator of the China Science and Technology Museum; Mr. Vitor Ng, President of Macao Foundation and President of Macao Science Center Limited and Mr. Yip Chee Kuen, Executive Director cum Chief Curator of Macao Science Center Limited.
