Mr. Hu Jintao, the President of the People’s Republic of China, officiated the opening ceremony of the Macao Science Center together with Mr. Edmund Ho Hau Wah, the Chief Executive of Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in the afternoon of 19 December 2009.
Ho said in his speech that the Center showcases a number of exhibits featuring current technologies, as well as exhibits and models, where young people can learn about the remarkable progress and achievements in aerospace technology development made by our home country. The Center shall become the hub of science education in Macao, and an important platform for civil education on patriotism.
In addition to expressing his gratitude to the Central Government for the great support received during the preparation and construction of the Macao Science Center, Ho also took the opportunity to express heartfelt gratitudes to those who had dedicated, and given support to this project, especially to Pei Partnership Architects LLP and Mr. I. Hu then further visited the ‘Science Express Gallery’ to meet students from selected local schools where they tried out a few interactive exhibits such as the ‘programmable dinosaurs’ together. Hu even answered a few questions on science raised by the students.
Hu encouraged the group of about 50 primary school students, ‘Children, you are the hope and future of our Nation. I hope that you will love science, learn about science, and make use of science,’ adding that he hoped they could be nurtured to innovatively serve Macao and China with their talents and knowledge.
