The video-conferencing presentation session of the first Macao-Beijing student internet exchange activity taking the theme of ‘Webpage Design on Climate Change’ co-organised by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ), Macao Science Center (MSC) and Beijing Municipal Commission of Education was held at the Confucius Hall of DSEJ on 28 July 2009. Through the activity, the organisers intend to encourage the proper use of internet, to foster better communication among the students from the two cities, and to raise public awareness on environmental protection.
The Macao-Beijing student internet exchange activity started as early as October 2008. Five outstanding schools that are strong in computer applications and webpage design were invited from the two cities respectively to join the activity, forming 5 joint teams The teams then established their own ‘Climate Change’ websites by interviewing experts from concerned local organisations and the general public to gather data on their selected themes, in order to investigate into the causes and effects of climate change and its impact on ecology.
The resulting websites of each team were evaluated by the judging panel according to the quality of data collection, website design, creditability of contents and the students’ performance on the presentation. Invited members of the judging panel comprise Professor Colin Lai from Macao Polytechnic Institute (IPM), Associate Professor Gao Guan Peng from the Civil Engineering Department of University of Macau, Ms. Liu Yin Kuan from the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector and Mr. Tang Yao Man from Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, as well as Mr. Clarence Choi, Exhibition Officer (Earth Science) of Macao Science Center.
The last phase of the activity was a video conferencing presentation to demonstrate and introduce the final websites to the judges, followed by a Q and A session and a simple award presentation ceremony was held to conclude the activity.
