Staff of Macao Science Center Attending the
“Science and Technology Week 2009” Event

The “Science and Technology Week 2009 and Exhibition of Science Popularisation in Schools” organised by the Science and Technology Council of Macao SAR Government was held at the Conference and Exhibition Center of Macau Fisherman’s Wharf during 11–14 July. Under the theme of “Science and Technology in Our Life”, this year’s exhibitions incorporate the elements of science and art, environmental protection, innovative information technology, total solar eclipse and more.

More than 40 items related to the science and technology in our daily lives were showcased along with 21 items resulting from the science popularising programmes of local schools, which concern computer technology, chemistry, physics, biology, astronomy, solar energy applications and assembly of robots.

“The Science and Technology Council insists on organising the Science and Technology Week in the hope that science and technology will disseminate in the communities, so the advances can change our lives,” Mr. Chui Sai-peng, member of the Science Popularisation Working Group of Macao Science and Technology Council, said in the opening address. “Our daily life can no longer be separated from the invention and creation brought about by the development of science and technology. Through organising this activity, we hope to raise public interest in acquiring knowledge in science and technology. As Macao residents gain better exposure to the latest technologies, the development of current science and technology can be facilitated.”

A few staff members of the Macao Science Center attended the opening ceremony and visited the exhibitions. Everyone showed great interest in the research projects of local schools and listened attentively to students’ explanation about the displayed items. Our staff also communicated actively with students about their current development of science education, and shared with them their experience in conducting researches.
