Demonstrations
Venue: Science Express Gallery (Gallery 5)

Welcome to the Molecular Kitchen of the Macao Science Center! We are going to apply different chemical and physical methods to make various delicious dishes for all of you, are you ready to try out the molecular food?

Molecular food is marvelous since it preserves the original taste of food while, at the same time, its physical form changes. So exciting!

If you are bored to “drink” milk, why don’t you come to the Macao Science Center to “eat” milk? We change the liquid form of milk into solid form – milk spaghetti! We also change tomato soup – tomato soup caviar is a good choice too!

Come taste and make your own molecular food!

Have you ever thought that a light bulb could shine without connecting it to electricity? Or have you ever thought of getting dry sand out of water?

The Macao Science Center is featuring an all-new “Magic Demonstration Series” in order to complete these impossible missions. Through these magic demonstrations, you may get to know the characteristics of electricity, the light bulb and water, and the relations between them. Audiences may have a chance to participate in the demonstrations, let’s enjoy and learn these scientific principles!

Have you ever thought that we could make use of the microwave oven for doing some astonishing experiments? Our Center invites you to participate in the demonstration featured at the Science Express Gallery (Gallery 5), and there you will find answers to all your questions.

What is it like to put a light bulb in the microwave oven? What about a candle?

We used to find water, oil and ice in our kitchen, why do they have a different result when they are put inside the microwave oven? What are the things that cannot be put into the microwave oven? What are the precautions we must be aware of when using the microwave oven?

Observe the microwave oven demonstration we have prepared for you and you will obtain the answers to your questions. But don’t forget, these experiments are dangerous, DO NOT TRY THEM AT HOME!

Just a reminder to everyone that this demonstration is regarded as a dangerous experiment, do not try it yourself!

Do you know which gas makes up the most volume of the air we inhale? Yes, it’s Nitrogen. Nitrogen liquefies with sufficiently low temperature (-196 ºC) under atmospheric pressure and exhibits a number of amazing properties.

In the Liquid Nitrogen demonstration at Science Express Gallery (Gallery 5), not only can visitors experience the peculiar properties of liquid Nitrogen, our demonstrator will explain in simple terms the principles and scientific phenomena of thermal expansion and contraction, elasticity, melting and boiling points, resistance of materials and other physical properties. Magnetic levitation due to superconductivity on special material through cooling using liquid nitrogen is also demonstrated.

*Please check the latest demonstrations schedules in our galleries.
