Regulations for Logo Design Competition of Macao Science Center

Logo Design Competition Result Announcement Postponed

We are sorry to inform that due to unforeseen reasons out of our control, the Macao Science Center Logo Design Competition result announcement will be postponed to July of this year. Please pay attention to the notice published in our website.

	Introduction: This activity is aiming at selecting a logo design for the Macao Science Center through open competition. The Macao Science Center is a multi-functional building providing exhibition, education, entertainment and conference services. The Center consists of an exhibition hall, a planetarium and a conference center with over 20,000 square meters of gross floor area. The building is designed by Mr. Ieoh Ming Pei and Pei Partnership Architects and is scheduled for completion in 2009. The Macao Science Center wishes to promote science and technology by using different means, including exhibitions, experiments, activities and programs, to popularize public understanding and application of science, and to arouse public in particular teenagers interest in the study of science and in the innovative and creative use of science and technology through the organization of science interest groups, trainings, competitions, conferences, seminars and exchange programs.

1.	Organizer:
	Macao Science Center Limited.

2.	Groups and Eligibility:
	a. Public group: any individual interested in this competition (no restriction on nationality, age and place of residence). b. Student group: current primary and secondary students of Macao during the competition period. c. To avoid any conflict of interest, all staffs of organizer, competition officials and adjudicators and his/her direct relatives are not allowed to participate in the competition.

3.	Submission of entries:
	a. Entry Form with logo design and floppy disk should be submitted to: Macao Science Center Limited Edif. WTC 15 andar A, B Av. Amizade No. 918 Macau. Please mark “Logo Design Competition” together with the competition group in the lower right corner of the envelope if an envelope is used. b. Entry collecting time: Mon – Fri, 09:00-13:00, 14:30-18:00 (excluding weekend and public holidays). c. Each participant should complete one Entry Form with properly signed declaration. d. Each participant can submit no more than 3 design entries.

4.	Entry Format and Requirements:
	a. Participant should submit the design in both black-and-white and full colour versions together with their soft copy (in ai or jpg format). b. The above two versions should be printed on two A-4 (210mm × 297mm) paper separately, with a small version of the design not higher than 30mm with name of Macao Science Center in Chinese, Portuguese and English (Chinese:澳門科學館; Portuguese: CENTRO DE CIÊNCIA DE MACAU or Centro de Ciência de Macau；English﹕MACAO SCIENCE CENTER or Macao Science Center) at the bottom of the page. c. The above two A-4 pages should be mounted on a single 620mm × 400mm black cardboard paper. d. Please complete one “concept behind the design” form for each design entry in within 250 words. e. No signatures or identification information or symbols of any kind should appear in the design except the Entry Form.

5.	Schedule of Events:
	a. Deadline of Entry Collection: 15 March 2008 (per the sealed chop of post office or Organizer) b. Award announcement: May 2008 (results will be announced in the Website of Macao Science Center, and only award winners will be informed individually by the Organizer.)

6.	Adjudication Panel:
	a. The adjudication panel will comprise local or oversea professionals and scholars, together with representative from the organizer appointed by the organizer. b. Subject to the decision of the adjudication panel, some Awards may not be given out.

7.	Selection of Winning Design:
	Design should be simple with clear symbolic meaning, easy to identify, and highlight the function and positioning of the Macao Science Center. Adjudication will be made according to: Theme 35% Creativity 35% Aesthetics 30%

8.	Awards:
	a. 1 Adoption Award MOP50,000 with certificate of honour. b. 5 Public Group Honorary Awards MOP1,000 with certificate of honour. c. 10 Student Group Honorary Awards MOP500 book coupon with certificate of honour.

9.	Others:
	a. Each design submitted must be the author’s original creation which has never been published, awarded or adopted by other users; otherwise the participant is responsible for all the legal responsibility arising from the design. The Organizer has the right to take back the award and the certificate of honour of any disqualified participant. b. The copyright and other rights of the adopted logo will be belonged to Macao Science Center and the Macao Science Center Limited. c. The designer of the adopted design has the obligation to modify the design under the request of the Organizer. If any participants do not wish to do so, they must declare it in the Entry Form. d. Except the adopted design, all other participants have the copyrights of their own design. Nevertheless, the Organizer can use all submitted designs for promotional purposes and activities related with the competition without paying any charge or notification. e. Except the award winners, all participants can get back his/her design work and discs within two months after the award announcement. Unsolicited entries will be disposed of afterward. f. All participants are deemed to abide by the regulations and accept the results of the competition once they completed the entry procedures.

10.	Disclaimers:
	a. All submitted designs that fail to comply with the rules set out in these regulations will not be assessed by the adjudication panel. b. The Organizer will not be responsible for any damage, lost, incompleteness, illegibility delay and misplacement of any submissions that is not caused by the Organizer, and the Organizer will not inform the participant of such problems individually. c. The Organizer may at its discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition and disqualify any participant for misconduct.

11.	Communication:
	a. Any queries can be made to the Organizer via E-mail to: competition@msc.org.mo. The Organizer reserves the right to answer the question or not, or answer the query in the Organizer’s webpage. b. All personal information collected for this competition will be used solely for the competition, except when the participants authorized the Organizer to use it for other purpose. Any proposed amendment of personal information should be written to the organizer via E-mail to: competition@msc.org.mo.
